Often, the zebroid appears as a Photoshop mistake, though the spectacular zebra hybrid is no illusion. The hybrid of a zebra with any other equine, the zebroid has been bred since the 19th century, mixing with a dizzying array of species over the years. In the zebroid subfamily, there is the "zorse" (zebra and horse), "zony" (zebra and pony) and "zonkey" (zebra and ... what else?) The zonkey, like the one seen in the background in the above photo, takes on an almost comical compromise between the features of its two parents.
