These days, tourists are flocking to the city of Chengdu, the capital of China's Sichuan province, to see more than a hundred of the world's rarest animals. There, in a research base, are 108 panda cubs, which have drawn about 10,000 people a day to catch but a glimpse of the notoriously elusive bear.

Of course, the above story is no surprise because everyone realizes the panda's fate; due to deforestation and its stubborn breeding habits, it's become the enduring symbol for the world's scarce species'. But plenty of other beloved animals, to much less fanfare, are depleting in numbers across the globe, too. Here are a few animals you might not know are classified as priority and endangered species' by the World Wildlife Federation (WWF).
