Red Bull launches Playgrounds app for sports and culture discovery
Red Bull Playgrounds is a free online platform and mobile app for outdoor sports enthusiasts, music lovers, and fun seekers. Share where you play, connect with Red Bull Pro athletes and like-minded people, and discover new spots wherever you go.
What if there was a hidden hockey pond around the corner from your place that you just never knew about? Or a secret skate spot with all the right features and none of what bums you out? What about a steep of vertical so epic it would satisfy your entire winter of skiing and snowboarding? Yet you dont know where it could possibly be.
Red Bull has set out to change the way local knowledge is shared with its recently launched Playgrounds app for Android and iOS. Now you can discover and share insider insights on the coolest spots and cultural happenings taking place coast to coast. From gems in B.C.’s vast backcountry to hip hangouts amongst Montreal’s late-night party scene, the app is a veritable guide to staying up to date and being in the know so that no pow run or DJ event goes left unturned.
Once you discover a spot you’d like to check out, you can then add as one of your own, see who else is playing in the area, snap photos and videos and comment on it. Users build up cred on the app by getting involved with the platform’s community, creating their own path sharing and discovering spots.
The idea is that the evolution of the social platform will include organized meet-ups amongst users, personal commentary and contextual content of a particular place, and the exchange of dialogue on all things happening. It doesn’t matter if you’re on the hunt for the next big skate spot or just looking for something to do on a Friday night, the social platform is in essence a directory of what’s buzzing.
One of the key elements of the app is the buy-in from Red Bull’s deep roster of pro athletes. From surfers and snowboarders to climbers, bikers and even dudes who jump out of capsules at the edge of space, users can track what Red Bull’s athletes are up to, where they are skiing, riding and playing.
