It turns out oregano kills bugs. Warsaw, Ont.'s Alyson Bell is the young inventor of the oregano water filter. Bell was one of 500 finalists at the national Science Fair held at Trent University in Peterborough, Ont., last May. She layered a water filter with fresh oregano, sandy gravel and charcoal and discovered that, because of the oregano, contaminated water came out clean and drinkable.
